Canon Pixma MG5721 Driver Download
Canon Pixma MG5721 Driver Download– The Canon Pixma MG5721 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One ($ 99.99) is obviously meant to be used as a multifunction printer (MFP), with a distinct lack of major office-centric features like faxing, Ethernet port and automatic document. Feeder (ADF). Unlike many printers meant for home use, however, it offers high-quality text, making it a more-than-reasonable choice for light-duty use as a personal office printer or the dual role of the printer from home and home office. Thanks to its high production quality, it is also our Editor’s Choice Budget MFP weighted hard to home use.
Note Editors: This review is based on tests conducted in the Canon Pixma MG5721 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One, the all-black version of the series. Besides the difference in color, the black and silver MG5721 are identical in features, and although we have not performed laboratory tests on this specific model, we expect similar performance. The slideshow below shows the Canon Pixma MG5721.
One pleasant surprise is that the MG5721 delivers significantly better looks than the Canon Pixma MG5620 Wireless Photo All-In-One printer that it is in the process of replacing in Canon’s line. It is also way out in front of most direct competitors. Compared to the HP Envy 4520 All-in-One printer, for example, it is ahead of both the speed and output quality. The Brother MFC-J470DW, our preferred choice for an office-centric budget MFP, offers faster speed and ADF and faxing, but the MG5721 beats the Brother model for production quality.
To avoid confusion, you need to know that Canon offers two other printers which they say are identical to the MG5721 except for the color. In addition to the MG5721 in a choice of all black or all white, you can get the same printer in black and silver as the Canon MG5721, or in white and silver as the Canon MG5722. Everything in this review applies to all four iterations of the three models.
The MG5721 measures 5.9 by 18 by 14.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 13 pounds and 13 ounces. There is no USB type-A port or memory card slot, which means you can not print from a USB key, a PictBridge device over a USB cable or a memory card. However, like most other recent Canon Pixma models, the printer supports Wireless Picturebridge, which Canon says is available on all the latest camera models that offer Wi-Fi. It is not available on cameras from other manufacturers.
Beyond the basics, the MG5721 offers mobile printing and scanning, as well as the ability to print from selected websites. Connect it to your network using Wi-Fi, and you can both print and scan to iOS, Android, and Windows phones and tablets through an access point on your network. You can also print through the cloud, assuming your network is connected to the Internet, and you can use the Canon Print app on your phone or tablet to send print jobs directly to printers from assorted websites, including Dropbox, Google Drive, Facebook, Twitter, and more.
If you connect the MG5721 to a PC via USB cable, you may not be able to print through the cloud or print directly from websites, but you can still print from and scan to mobile devices by connecting directly to the printer using Canon’s equivalent to DVD -For direct.
Paper handling goes beyond the basics, with an automatic duplexer. Paper capacity is 100 sheets, which is enough for most personal use. For scanning, there is a flatbed mail-letter, but no ADF.
Physical setup is a standard charge. Install the software is not. The printer comes with a disk you can use to install the driver and other software, but the getting started guide mentions it in a paragraph that is literally to the side of the main run of instructions. Follow the run, and the guide sends you to Canon’s website to download everything instead.
Downloading has the advantage of assuring that you have the latest versions of all the software. However, it takes approximately forever. In my testing, the download failed once, and at 90 minutes after starting the installation, Windows reported that it would take 45 minutes longer, at which point I left to do something else. Note that this was with a broadband connection that had a promised 75 Mbps download speed.
In fairness, I must point out that I have installed two other Canon printers this way without the downloading failure and without quite much time. Even when the process goes on, however, installing the cloud is much more time-consuming than installing a supplied disk. However, no matter how annoying the installation is, you only have to suffer through it once. This also helps that you could use the supplied disk instead, although it would be better if the tidbit stood better in the getting started guide.
Speed and output quality
Once the MG5721 is installed, it works nicely. I timed it on our environment for business applications (using Qualathogic’s hardware and software for timing), at 2.6 pages per minute (ppm). This is a bit on the slow side, but suitable for most home or personal use. For context, it’s just a little over half the speed of the Brother MFC-J470DW, at 4.9ppm, but almost twice the speed of the HP Envy 4520, at 1.4ppm. The speed of the photo was much faster compared to the competition, averaging 54 seconds for a sprint from 4 to 6-inches in our tests.
Production quality is the MG5721’s most powerful selling point. Text is at the top end of the queue with the majority of inkjet MFPs, making it easy enough for any business use. The production of graphics is better even relative to other inkjets, put it a step above the vast majority. Most people will consider it as good enough to give a client they wanted to impress with a sense of their professionalism.
Photos are in the top tier for an inkjet MFP, which makes them of higher quality than most pharmacy prints. They are not a match for the best quality photos from inkjets aimed at professional photographers, but these printers are also much more expensive and not intended for printing typical business documents.
If you need an ADF, faxing, or faster speed, consider the Brother MFC-J470DW, which is aimed more at the office needs than the Canon Pixma MG5721 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One. If your scan and copy requirements are light-duty enough so you do not need an ADF, but you do not need to fax, the MG5721 is an excellent fit as a Personal MPP or for home use. Setting it may take a long time, but this is a one-time headache. And once you have finished it, the MG5721 will give you a level of production quality that few inkjet MFPs can match, regardless of the price.
