Upgrades from the PRO-1000
The PRO-1100 is the successor to the PRO-1000, which was released in 2015 and recommended by PetaPixel as the best photo printer for color accuracy. While the PRO-1000 also uses 12 inks, the PRO-1100 has new inks that deliver deeper blacks, richer blues (especially dark blues), and smoother color gradation. The Lucia Pro II inks include Canon’s Chroma Optimizer, ensuring smooth reflections and reducing bronzing effects on prints.
Improved Ink Durability
The pigment inks in the PRO-1100 are also very durable. Canon claims that prints made on archival media with the PRO-1100 can last up to 200 years, compared to 60 years on the previous model. The new inks offer better abrasion resistance than the Lucia PRO PFI-1000 ink set used in the PRO-1000. The PRO-1100 uses PFI-4100 inks.
Wider Media Compatibility
The PRO-1100 supports a wide range of media. Besides borderless prints on sheets up to 17 x 25 inches, it also supports roll prints and can create prints up to nearly 3.3 meters (11 feet) long. This is an improvement from the maximum print length of 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) on the PRO-1000. Surprisingly, the PRO-1000 couldn’t handle 7 x 10, 9 x 13, 12 x 12, or 13 x 19-inch papers, but the PRO-1100 can.
Design and Additional Features
Despite its enhanced features and performance, the PRO-1100 is the same size as the PRO-1000, measuring 723 x 435 x 285 millimeters (28.5 x 17.1 x 11.2 inches). Although Canon hasn’t listed the weight of the PRO-1100, the PRO-1000 weighs 32.3 kilograms (71.2 pounds), so the PRO-1100 is likely similar. This printer isn’t designed to be moved frequently.
Other Features
The PRO-1100 also includes other features expected from a printer of this class, such as Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, a 3-inch LCD screen, and Canon’s dedicated Professional Print and Layout software.
