Canon PIXMA TS9540 Driver Download

IJ Start Cannon– Your printer won’t work without the driver. That’s just the truth. I learned this the hard way — spent an embarrassing amount of time staring at a blinking printer before I realized I’d never installed the Canon PIXMA TS9540 driver properly. Once I did, everything worked fine.

So if your printer isn’t showing up, or it shows up but does nothing, this guide is for you. Let’s keep it simple.

What Is a Printer Driver, Really?

Think of it like this. Your computer and your printer don’t speak the same language. The driver is what translates between them.

No driver = they can’t talk = nothing prints.

It’s a small file, but without it your TS9540 just sits there doing nothing. So step one is always: get the right driver.

A Few Things I Like (and Don’t Like) About the TS9540

Before we dive in — this is a solid printer. I’ve used it for photos and regular documents and it handles both well. The 6-color ink is a nice touch. Each color has its own tank, so you only replace what’s empty. That saves money over time.

The touchscreen is clean and easy to use. Wireless printing works well too, once you get it set up.

That said, setup can be annoying if you don’t know what you’re doing. And the Wi-Fi can get finicky sometimes. Nothing deal-breaking, but worth knowing upfront.

Where to Get the Canon PIXMA TS9540 Driver

Only one place: Canon’s official website. Don’t use random third-party driver sites. Some are fine, but some are not — and it’s just not worth the risk of downloading something dodgy.

Here’s what to do:

  • Go to canon.com (or your country’s version — canon.co.uk, canon.com.au, etc.)
  • Click Support and search for PIXMA TS9540
  • Pick your operating system
  • Download the full driver package — not just the basic one

The full package comes with a scan utility too, which is useful if you scan stuff at home. The other software they bundle in… not so much. But the core driver is what matters.

Which File Do You Actually Need?

There are usually a few options listed. Here’s the easy version:

  • Windows 11 or Windows 10 (64-bit): Get the “Driver & Application Package”
  • Windows 10 (32-bit): Same thing, but there’s a separate 32-bit version — check your system first
  • Mac (Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey): Match the driver to your exact macOS version
  • Linux: Canon doesn’t officially support it. Community drivers exist but setup is hit or miss

Quick tip — on Windows, right-click “This PC” and check Properties. It’ll tell you if you’re on 64-bit or 32-bit. Takes five seconds and saves a lot of frustration.

How to Install It (Step by Step)

The installer walks you through most of it. Just don’t rush.

  1. Don’t connect the printer yet — wait for the installer to tell you
  2. Open the file you downloaded (.exe on Windows, .dmg on Mac)
  3. Follow the steps — mostly just clicking Next
  4. Choose your connection: USB or Wi-Fi
  5. If using Wi-Fi, have your network name and password ready
  6. Plug in the printer only when the installer says to
  7. Finish up, restart your computer if it asks

The whole thing takes about 5–10 minutes. On Windows 11, a security pop-up might appear — just click Allow and carry on. That’s normal.

When Something Goes Wrong

Even with a clean install, things can go sideways. Here’s what I’ve run into:

  • Printer not showing up at all Restart both your computer and printer. If you’re using USB, swap the cable. A bad cable causes more problems than you’d think.
  • Printer shows up but won’t print Check if the TS9540 is set as your default printer. Sometimes an old printer is still set as default and everything gets sent there instead.
  • Wi-Fi keeps cutting out This one got me for a bit. The TS9540 prefers the 2.4GHz band on your router, not 5GHz. If your router has both, make sure the printer is on the right one.
  • Mac won’t let the driver install Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General. There’ll be a button to allow Canon’s software to run. Click it, then try installing again.

Should You Update the Driver Later?

Only if something stops working, or after a big OS update.

You don’t need to keep updating drivers like you would an app. If it’s working, leave it. But if you upgrade to a new version of Windows or macOS and the printer starts acting weird, check Canon’s site for a newer driver. That usually fixes it.

I check maybe once a year and that’s plenty.

Quick Pros and Cons

Good:

  • Great photo quality thanks to 6-color ink
  • Wireless printing is handy once set up
  • Touchscreen is easy to navigate
  • Individual ink tanks = less wasted ink

Not so good:

  • First-time setup can feel confusing
  • Wi-Fi isn’t always stable
  • Some of the bundled software is unnecessary
  • Ink tanks can feel a bit awkward to swap out

That’s Really It

Get the driver from Canon’s official site. Pick the right version for your OS. Follow the installer. Restart if needed.

If something breaks, don’t panic — most issues are simple to fix. A bad cable, a wrong default printer setting, a Wi-Fi band issue. Nothing complicated.

Once it’s all running, it’s a genuinely good printer. Hope yours is sorted soon.
