Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver Download

August 31, 2026 by admin

IJ Start Cannon– Some printers are easy to forget once newer models come along. The Canon PIXMA MG5340 is a little different.

It may be an older printer, but it still has quite a lot going for it. It can print, scan, copy, connect wirelessly, and even handle photos pretty well. For a home user, that is already a useful package.

Canon PIXMA MG5340 Drivers

I actually like printers like this. They are not trying to do anything crazy. You put in the paper, choose what you want to print, and get on with your day.

But there is one thing that can be annoying with an older printer: drivers.

If Windows does not recognize the printer properly, even a perfectly good MG5340 can suddenly feel useless. That is why finding the correct Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver is still important.

So, after looking at what this printer offers, its good and bad points, and some of the common driver issues, is the MG5340 still worth using?

Let’s take a closer look.

Canon PIXMA MG5340 Design and Features

The PIXMA MG5340 has the typical compact look of a Canon home printer from its generation.

It is not tiny, but it does not need a huge desk either. For a home office, bedroom, or small workspace, the size is quite reasonable.

It is also a multifunction printer, so you get several useful features in one machine:

  • Printing
  • Scanning
  • Copying
  • Wireless printing
  • Automatic two-sided printing
  • Borderless photo printing
  • CD/DVD printing
  • Memory card support
  • LCD display

One feature I really appreciate is the automatic duplex function. It sounds like a small detail, but if you print a lot of documents, it can save a surprising amount of paper.

The built-in LCD screen is useful too. You can handle basic tasks without always sitting in front of the computer.

Canon PIXMA MG5340 Print Quality

This is probably the area where the MG5340 still feels surprisingly good.

Canon clearly designed this printer with home photo printing in mind. Photos can come out sharp, colorful, and nicely detailed when you use good paper and the correct settings.

For everyday documents, the results are also good. Text looks clean enough for letters, school assignments, invoices, and general paperwork.

The five-ink system is one reason the printer can produce decent color results. Separate ink cartridges are another nice touch because you do not have to replace every color just because one has run out.

Of course, this is not a modern professional photo printer. But honestly, for printing a few photos at home, I think the quality is still quite respectable.

Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver: Why It Matters

If you connect the MG5340 to a computer and nothing seems to happen, don’t immediately assume the printer is broken.

The Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver is basically the software that allows your computer and printer to communicate properly.

Without the right driver, Windows might not recognize the printer correctly. Some functions may also be missing.

This becomes especially noticeable after:

  • Installing Windows again
  • Moving the printer to another computer
  • Changing from an older Windows version
  • Removing an old printer installation
  • Switching between USB and wireless connections

I would always check the driver first before spending money on repairs.

Also, make sure you choose a driver that matches your operating system. Installing a random driver just because the model name looks similar can create even more problems.

How to Install the Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver

Installing the driver is usually not difficult, but the order does matter.

First, if you already have a failed MG5340 installation on the computer, remove it. Restarting Windows afterward is also a good idea.

Then install the appropriate Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver for your operating system.

During setup, simply follow the instructions on the screen. If the installer tells you to connect the USB cable, wait until that point instead of plugging it in immediately.

For wireless setup, make sure the printer and computer are connected to the same network.

After installation, I recommend printing a test page. It only takes a moment, and it quickly tells you whether everything is working.

If printing works but scanning doesn’t, don’t panic. Check whether the scanner software was installed as well.

Wireless Printing Experience

Wireless printing was a pretty useful feature when the MG5340 came out, and it is still convenient today.

You don’t have to keep the printer right next to your computer. Thanks to wireless printing, you can place it wherever it fits best—and that can make a small workspace much easier to organize.

The problem is that the wireless hardware is also getting old.

So, if the printer suddenly disappears from your network, it may take a little troubleshooting. Restarting the router and printer is worth trying first.

Personally, if I just want something that works without messing around, USB is still my first choice with an older printer.

Wireless is nice when it works. USB is boring, but boring can be good.

Printing Speed

The MG5340 isn’t going to win any speed competition.

For a few pages at home, the speed is fine. But if you have a large stack of documents to print, you will definitely notice that this is an older machine.

Photos take longer, naturally. The printer has to deal with multiple ink colors and more detailed printing.

For normal home use, though, I don’t think the speed is a major problem.

If your printing needs are something like 5, 10, or 20 pages at a time, it should be perfectly manageable.

For a busy office printing hundreds of pages every day? I’d look elsewhere.

Ink Usage and Running Costs

Ink is something you should think about before deciding whether to keep or buy an MG5340.

The separate cartridges are a good thing. If one color runs out, you can replace that cartridge instead of throwing away a whole combined color cartridge.

But there is another side to it.

If you print lots of colorful photos, ink consumption can add up quickly.

Your actual running cost will depend on what you print. Someone printing mostly black text will use ink very differently from someone printing photos all the time.

You can also find compatible cartridges, which may cost less than original ones. Just be careful with extremely cheap cartridges.

In my experience, poor-quality ink can cause:

  • Faded colors
  • Uneven printing
  • Clogged nozzles
  • Print-head problems
  • More frequent cleaning

Saving a few dollars on ink isn’t much of a saving if you end up fighting with the printer for an entire afternoon.

Scanning and Copying

The scanner is another reason the MG5340 can still be useful around the house.

You can scan documents, receipts, photographs, and other paperwork without needing a separate scanner.

Copying is straightforward too. Put the original document on the scanner, choose the copy option, and you’re ready to go.

For basic home tasks, the scanner does its job well enough.

Of course, newer multifunction printers may scan faster and offer better software. But if you’re only scanning a few documents now and then, the difference may not matter much.

Pros and Cons of the Canon PIXMA MG5340

The MG5340 has plenty of good features, but I wouldn’t call it perfect.

Here are the things I like most.

Pros:

  • Good photo print quality
  • Separate ink cartridges
  • Automatic two-sided printing
  • Built-in scanner and copier
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Borderless photo printing
  • CD/DVD printing
  • Useful LCD display
  • Good choice for basic home use

And now the less exciting part.

Cons:

  • Printing speed is only average
  • Photo printing can use quite a lot of ink
  • Older wireless hardware can be troublesome
  • Driver support may be limited on newer systems
  • Replacement cartridges may become harder to find
  • Not suitable for heavy office workloads

For me, the biggest concern today isn’t really the printer’s output quality.

It is age.

The older the printer gets, the more important things like drivers, ink availability, and print-head condition become.

Common Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver Problems

Older printers sometimes need a little extra patience.

One common problem is Windows showing the MG5340 as offline even though it is connected. Removing the printer and reinstalling the correct driver can often help.

Another situation is when printing works but scanning doesn’t.

That can happen if only the basic printer driver was installed. The scanning software may need to be installed separately.

You might also run into problems after upgrading Windows. If that happens, don’t just download the first driver you find on a random website.

Check the operating system compatibility first.

And if you’re using USB, don’t forget the simple stuff.

Try another USB port. Try another cable if you have one. Sometimes the printer isn’t the problem at all.

Is the Canon PIXMA MG5340 Good for Photos?

Yes, especially for casual home photo printing.

This is one of the areas where the MG5340 still has some charm.

Photos can look sharp and detailed, especially when you use decent photo paper. Colors are generally pleasant, and borderless printing is useful for things like family photos and small creative projects.

I wouldn’t recommend it as a professional photography printer. That’s not what it was made for.

But if you want to print a holiday photo, family picture, greeting card, or something similar, it can do a very respectable job.

And honestly, seeing a photo come out of an old printer and still look good is pretty satisfying.

Is the Canon PIXMA MG5340 Good for Home Use?

For light to moderate home use, I think the MG5340 still makes sense.

You get printing, scanning, copying, wireless connectivity, duplex printing, and photo printing in one machine.

That’s a lot of functionality for a home printer.

But if you’re buying one used, don’t judge it by appearance alone. A printer can look almost new on the outside while having a badly clogged print head inside.

Before buying a second-hand MG5340, I would check:

  • Does every color print?
  • Is the print head working properly?
  • Does the scanner work?
  • Does wireless printing work?
  • Does USB printing work?
  • Does it feed paper correctly?
  • Does the LCD work?
  • Does automatic duplex printing work?
  • Can you still find suitable ink?

Most importantly, ask for a test print.

A five-minute test can save you from buying someone else’s printer problem.

Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver for Windows

If you’re setting up the printer on Windows, start by checking your exact Windows version.

Don’t assume that a driver made for an older version of Windows will automatically work perfectly with your current system.

The MG5340 is an older model, so software compatibility can be more complicated than it is with newer Canon printers.

If an old driver is already installed and the printer isn’t working correctly, removing the old installation before starting again may help.

After installation, check Windows printer settings and make sure the MG5340 appears correctly.

If you plan to scan documents, also make sure the scanning software is available and installed.

This is an easy step to overlook.

My Final Thoughts

The Canon PIXMA MG5340 may be old, but I wouldn’t call it outdated in every sense.

It still has some genuinely useful features, especially good photo quality, automatic duplex printing, separate ink cartridges, scanning, copying, and wireless connectivity.

If you already own one and it is working well, there is little reason to replace it just because newer models exist.

Install the correct Canon PIXMA MG5340 Driver, use reasonable-quality ink, keep the printer clean, and it can still handle plenty of everyday jobs.

If you’re thinking about buying one second-hand, though, be a little more careful.

Check the print head. Test every function. Look at the ink situation. And don’t be afraid to walk away if the seller won’t let you test it.
