This compact device has a 20-page automatic document feeder (ADF) built into the scanner lid. This means you can copy long documents or send multi-page faxes without needing to feed each page manually. The MX495 is one of the slowest printers we’ve tested recently. It prints the first page of text in 14 seconds but only manages 8.4 pages per minute (ppm) for 25 pages. Color printing is even slower, at 1.6 ppm, with frequent pauses between pages. Printing a 6×4 inch photo takes almost six minutes. Copying is also slow, especially in color. Scanning, however, is much faster, with a 6×4 inch photo scanned at 1,200 dpi in less than a minute.

Quality of Prints and Scans

The MX495 produces good-quality results.Copies look great, and text and graphics print well on plain paper. Photos printed by this device may have a slight grain, but they still look nice overall.

Ink Costs and Recommendations

The MX495 uses two sizes of ink cartridges. With the larger cartridge, printing costs are reasonable at 6.9p per A4 page for text and graphics. However, the cost for black ink is higher at 2.9p per page.
